Archaeological Collection at Stavros

Here you will see findings from the northern part of Ithaca dating back to the early-Helladic to the Roman period. The building was constructed in 1933. It was renovated in 1994. Most of the finds come from excavations in Cave Loizos and Pilkata. The excavations were conducted by the British Archaeological School of Athens. While the findings in Loizos were of religious character, Pilikata brought to surface a prehistoric settlement.

Among the most important findings, you will see:

• Parts of large bronze tripods. 9th - 8th century BC
• A clay plate with a rooster scene. 7th century BC (Corinthian).
• A broken clay mask of the 1st or 2nd century AD bearing an engraved inscription.    
• A relief with a dancing nymphs scene. Hellenistic period.
