This is the most beautiful and green village of Kythera. It is located north of the island, near the airport. It offers a breathtaking view to a lovely creek, the Gorge of Tsakonas. Across Mitata you can see Viaradika, a smaller village. Between them, at the Gorge of Tsakonas, you will find a beautiful landscape of dense vegetation of various trees, shrubs and other plants. The gorge is accessible and will surprise you with its mills, ponds, abundant water and a small post-Byzantine church. In Mitata only you will find and taste a unique variety of nectarine, also known as breasts of Venus. The villagers are mainly farmers and their association Myria, organizes a Wine Festival in the village every August. If you are in the area, don’t forget to visit the springs; a place ideal for picnic.
